She speaks in my experience from her homes town of Accra, Ghana, where she claims “no one is shocked” that she’s got created a book about sex. As a blogger, author and self-described “positive sex evangelist”, she’s been gathering and tracking the intimate activities of African lady for longer than ten years. The woman brand-new publication, The Sex resides of African girls, was an anthology of confessional reports from across the African region and the diaspora. The stories are sorted into three parts: self-discovery, independence and healing. Each “sex lifetime” is informed from inside the subject’s own statement. As a result, a novel that takes the reader into the bedrooms of polygamous marriages in Senegal, to furtive lesbian hookups in toilets in Cairo and polyamorous groups in america, but without having any sensationalism or essentialism. Her ambition, inside the guide like in lives, is actually “to write more room” for African ladies “to need available and honest discussions about gender and sexuality”.

Sekyiamah grew up in London to Ghanaian parents in a polygamous union, but grew up in Ghana. The woman formative ages in Accra were under a patriarchal, conservative, Catholic regime that ingrained inside her a fear of sex and all sorts of the prospective threats – pregnancy, pity, becoming a “fallen” girl.
