I understand tales like mine aren’t specifically new or surprising, specifically to my Asian United states siblings.

The sexualized racism and microaggressions I’ve experienced in my own life are no different from just what too many of those withstand every day . Indeed, the painful, dehumanizing opinion that We learned at 12 years of age — that individuals as men and women make a difference lower than our body components — is but one that ladies of this Asian diaspora understand straight and indirectly, continuously.

We learn it from the harmful stereotypes of Asian ladies in preferred culture in which we’re represented — if we’re shown anyway — as either meek and submissive “China Dolls” or hypersexual and deceitful “Dragon Ladies.” Such depictions would be the outcome of years of western imperialism and aggressive conquests, that posses provided to a present-day truth whereby guys become entitled to Asian women’s system.

Many people, like my ex-boyfriend, might think this is certainly “not an issue” and also argue that getting fetishized because of the white patriarchal look are an empowering right. I shamefully always believe this lie, as well. Continue reading
